HOMI K. BHABHA AND THE MIXED BLESSING OF HYBRIDITY IN BIBLICAL HERMENEUTICS
Jin Han
ABSTRACT
Homi K. Bhabha’s postcolonial theory offers a great potential for a new landscape in the interpretation of the biblical literature that was produced and consumed in the imperial and colonial contexts of antiquity. The notions of hybridity and mimicry Bhabha has elucidated are particularly rich in implication for a revised description of the complex web of political and cultural negotiations in ancient Israel. The fruition of the hermeneutic implications of the problematics of hybridity on biblical studies awaits the formulation of concrete strategies to engage the powers that be in the contemporary still-colonial world.
